Despite their name, Red-bellied Woodpeckers are much better known for their brilliant red heads than their bellies. The faint rosy wash on their underside is easy to miss, making their name a bit of a puzzle. Whatever they're called, these striking birds are a welcome sight, bringing flashes of color and lively energy to backyard feeders and woodland trails alike.
