With summer in full swing, that also means our garden in producing like mad.
We cook a lot and one thing we grow is fresh herbs. Of course delicate herbs like basil and lavender aren't winter hardy here so we relish them when they are fresh. But we also dry them. We have a dehydrator and we dry all of our herbs for winter during the summer. We have savory, chives, sage, chamomile and oregano in our dehydrator currently and the smell is amazing as it fills the house. We have sage and lavender drying in the kitchen for non culinary as well. This time of year the house just smells like herbs. Even better, this winter, while icy rain or fat snowflakes fall outsdie in January, we'll add some savory and thyme to a pot of soup and the house will smell of herbs again.
