Hitting a creative wall is no fun. The combination of increased gardening responsibilities, work, and the less than exciting regular old life responsibilities has slowed down the spark of new work. And that's OK - creativity ebbs and flows. That's the time to practice those technical painting skills.
Lately I've been following Paul Clark, an artist on Youtube. I try one of his excellent tutorials and then work from my own reference photos to try to recreate the skills I've picked up. Sometimes it works, sometimes I fail, but I always learn a lot and that's the point. While it's tough to be creative sometimes, it's never hard to learn something new. The results of the work is a lot of little scritches and scratches.
